Collector Interview: Goldie G.

This week we're getting a look into the collection of Brooklyn-based Goldie G. Goldie's plant-filled apartment is also home to 300-350 records. My record collection makes me feel accomplished. I see them grow and I’ve invested in them. Vinyl are not always cheap so it’s nice to see where my money is going. Music in general makes me feel loved. What is life without music? I love going to concerts and I spin records before and after I see an artists/band when I get home. It feels to me like a warm hug. Whenever I get home from a stressful day at work, I like to just play records. For some weird reason, I feel comfort whenever I hear the sound and crackle. -Goldie G.
Size of your collection:
Roughly around 300-350 records.
How do you organize your collection?
I used to organize them by genre and I realized that I had challenges doing that because there are sub genres and felt that, I would be much comfortable organizing them alphabetically. My space is small and it’s easier for me to do it that way. Eventually, when I get a bigger space and when my collection grows, I would come back to organizing them by genres and decade.
What album/artist are you listening to right now?
I’m currently listening to the Beastie Boys and Durand Jones and The Indications. I just saw Beastie Boys Story live last week and I’m still on that high. Durand Jones as well because I am seeing them live next week.
How long have you been collecting records? How did you get into it?
I’ve started collecting in 2009. I share a record collection with my boyfriend at the time. We both like vinyl. Eventually, the relationship did not work and had to split the collection between us. There were a few years after that, you know? Life happened, that I lost the joy in buying/exchanging vinyl. I wasn’t collecting as much as I used to. I’m slowly building it back up. I’m not as impulsive as I used to and I have to be careful at what I get since my space isn’t big.
Favorite or biggest music genre (or favorite artist) in your collection:
Definitely a mix of everything. My most favorite I would say, is all of my David Bowie, Radiohead, and Death Cab For Cutie collection.

What is your beverage of choice when listening to records?

Where do you hunt for vinyl?
My favorite places to go are always Turntable Lab NYC, Human Head NYC, and Generation Records. All in New York City.
